Ford NAIAS livestream link for tomorrow:
Starts tomorrow at 9:10 AM EST and ends at 9:35
Almost reveal time! Very exciting! I'm not sleeping tonight.
Also, it's kind of unbelievable how hard it was to post that link. Every time I posted it the link was deleted.

My classes don't start until next week! I'm sure the news will be all over the web within seconds, so if you can sneak out your phone without getting caught or missing important notes... Not a bad idea!

I have a class like 20 minutes after that I use a computer for anyway. So it's not too big of a deal really.

I build those booths, that looks like a tough one. The toughest project at an auto show I've worked on was the Hyundai booth at the LA auto show. I think they are still using it. You guys always look at the cars but those structures are a lot of work to make and build on site!

That's the Focus ST, so behind it is the 05/06 GT. To the left is where Phoenix will be. Hummingbird 2 will be to the right of that.

Interesting, I always thought they were somewhat simple for the most part. But apparently not!

Rigging above, I-beams, flooring, graphics, turn tables being level and fitting into the flooring material, electrical, fuck I can make a long list. We have to plot the floor in chalk and set up the main structure with lasers and fork lifts, if its off too much things like the flooring have to be custom cut to fit or worse, other main structures won't fit. If the booth is too big it has to be plumbed for fire. If the electrical is wrong it takes a lot to fix it. The whole thing has to be designed to be transported in crates with numbered parts so people can assemble everything in time for opening. Fancy pieces made of various materials can't be scratched, they have to be protected. LA show booths sometimes take six days with around the clock shifts, Detroit starts to move in a month before open. Remember someone made all of those pieces in a shop, custom!

That's crazy! I never realized so much work went in to these shows.
It always looks good at the end though.

Yeah we do carpentry, cnc, graphics application, fabric wrap a booth, flooring, low voltage (higher is electrical union), rigging signs or anything big hanging from points on the building, plastics, stone, Corian type flooring. Our union is basically composed of construction artists. We have to be creative but also able to build it. And something always goes wrong because everything is custom and mobile so a big part of the job is figuring out how the hell you fix something for a booth that cost a few million by opening. Fun fun fun. So guys and gals, next time you are checking out the cars, look around and see how that huge booth was fabricated from scratch please!
